The new graphic novels highlights have a new home! Instead of monthly blogposts featuring new titles, we will now publish a monthly bookletter (book + newsletter = bookletter)! The bookletter will include a variety of adult, teen, and children titles. You can subscribe to the list via email or RSS. Banned Books Week: September 25th - October 2nd

Saturday, September 25th is the beginning of Banned Books Week, a week dedicated to celebrating the freedom to read by highlighting some of the books that faced censorship over the years.

The American Library Association compiles lists of challenged books each year including a list of classic titles, many of which may surprise you. These titles come from reports on book challenges, which are "formal written requests to remove a book from a library or classroom because of an objection to the book’s content."

Fifth Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival @ South Houston Library

North Channel Library's Hispanic Heritage FestivalIt is that time of year again! This year's Hispanic Heritage Festival will take place at South Houston Branch Library this Saturday, September 25th, between 10am-2pm. Join us at 10am for a Hispanic Heritage themed puppet show and continue the festivities outside the library with a variety of crafts, entertainment, and more! We will also have special guest appearances by Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia, the Houston Dynamobile, and the Fiesta Party van. We will also have a moonwalk, face painting, candy-filled piñatas, and food!

August 28th is Read Comics in Public Day

Show your comic book appreciation and pride by reading a comic in public tomorrow! This day was founded by editors at The Daily Cross Hatch to help promote acceptance of comics and comics readership. If you have yet to read to a comic book or perhaps have one that is being neglected, now is the time to show your support for graphic novels!
