Fiesta @ Your Library

The Fairbanks Branch Library is proud to host a Fiesta celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, October 10, from 11:00am to 3:00pm.  We invite you to join us for refreshments, face painting, craft activities, door prizes--and a Pinata!  So plan to include a trip to the library as part of your activities for Saturday, October 10 and share our celebration with us.  See you then!

Bulletin Board Smorgasbord

If you have not seen the latest designs for the bulletin boards in the meeting room here at Fairbanks Branch Library, then please take time to take a look.  The designs cover a wide range of interests, including spiders, ants, popcorn, cats, books, and spaghetti and meatballs falling as rain.  You can see the designs in person or take a look at the branch photos section where I have posted some pictures of these latest bulletin boards.  Cheers!

Talk Like a Pirate @ Your Library

Did you know that September 19 is the offical "Talk Like a Pirate Day"?  Well, now you do and to help all landlubbers to get in the mood, the Fairbanks Branch Library has created a display of fiction and nonfiction books about pirates.  These books can really help you get "hooked" (Arrrgh!) on all matters piratical!  So, if you want to learn more about pirates, please weigh anchor and sail for the library and we can help you find what you need.  Yo Ho Ho!

Children's Fiction "Gems" Anyone?

One of the fun things I like to do is browse the new children's fiction books that are added to the collection at the library.  It is a pleasure to find a new book that has a richness of characterization as well as a compelling story.  Such books have a sparkle or brightness to them that draw me into the story and just keep me reading--often straight through to the end with no breaks.  These books I like to add it to my list of what I call "gems" of children's fiction.  And, fortunately, there are a lot of good writers who write for young audiences.  So, my question to you is if you have read any children's fiction lately that you would rate as a "gem"?

Pajama Storytime @ Your Library

As I noted in an earlier blog entry, Fairbanks Branch Library hosted a  bedtime storytime at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 31, to say "aloha" to the end of summer vacation.  Children were encouraged to wear pajamas and slippers to the storytime and many of the Fairbanks Library staff wore their pajamas and slippers and robes all day to celebrate.  Please look at the branch photos section to view several photos we took of the staff wearing their pjs (check out those bunny slippers!), and of the children (more bunny slippers!!), and myself during storytime.  Guess I need to get some bunny slippers!
