Baby Time

Are you a Book-aneer?

Now that “the spring has sprung,” you may want to spend more time outdoors (well, maybe after the city’s trees’ pollen production has subsided).  If so, why not plan one of your walks or trips to the park around a visit to the library? Whether you want to introduce your “little ones” to the wonderful realm of books, or whether they already love reading (or being read to), an escapade to one of our library’s storytimes may be quite an adventure!  Last week, Mrs. Donna talked about seeds and gardening, and this week, she will try to introduce you to her favorite pirates, and she promises they won’t be (too) scary.  Plus, she always shares with you some of her other beloved books.

So don’t dilly-dally!  We have the perfect times for you—after-breakfast and right-before-lunch:

Infant Explorers Potato Flakes

a little foot covered with a little potato cake formed from walking around in the potato flakesgroup of children playing with potato flakesToday Infants enjoyed potato flake play. Our inspiration came from Crystal Underwood's blog post featured on A Growing Jeweled Rose. It was unmistakable fun, sensory exploration.  One little pair of little feet did so much exploring and investigating that her feet collected little potato cakes.

This activity comes highly recommended by the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek community of kids!

Your Never Too Young To Join the Library

The library is for everyone including our youngest patrons.  Help get your little one on the right track to enjoy the benefits that the library has to offer and a lifelong love of reading.  You can get your baby their own library card to check out those board books, baby magazines like Baby Bug and Wild Animal Baby, music CDs for playtime and lullabies for nap time and parents can check out lots of good resources for parenting and DVDs.  Don't forget to plan a visit when we have special programs just for them.   Every Wednesday at 2:00 pm is Baby Book Time, a lapsit program that gets them laughing and learning with the Children's Librarian.  Come check us out.

Edible Gluten Free No Cook Playdough

Up Date 2/10: gluten free playdough and kids

Gluten-free play dough was pretty fun. We had a great time with the lumpy stick mess I made.  We used natural spices and veggies to tint the dough. Turmeric was my favorite because of it cam out so bright.  We also used the juice left in a can of sliced beets, paprika and cocoa for pink, orange, and brown.
