Special Volunteer Opportunity at Aldine!

Hey everyone! There is a special volunteer opportunity up ahead. The Aldine Library is proud to sponsor this year's Hispanic Heritage Festival. We need volunteers to help before, during, and after the event. Volunteers must be *AGES 15 and UP and need parent permission to help out. For this special event, volunteers must arrive no later than 9 am. Volunteers will help with:

o Set up & Games booths
o Craft tables & Face Painting
o Food & Drink Service
o Clean up & Other assignments as needed

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with HCPL!

Hispanic Heritage Graphic dcherryCome celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Harris County Public Library! All of our branches have events planned to recognize the contributions of Latinos to our communities and to American culture. There will be movies, crafts, storytelling, cooking and dance demonstrations, book discussions, and, of course, fiestas!

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Saturday, September 22, when HCPL will host our special Hispanic Heritage Festival at the Aldine Branch Library with lots to do and see and taste! We’ll have entertainment including a puppet show, folkloric dance and Happy the Clown. Library Fiesta Time!

OLE!  It's time to party at the Maud Marks Library!  We will be hosting our annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta this Saturday, September 17 in the afternoon.  We will have dancing, food, music, a cooking demonstration, and children's crafts all afternoon until 4 PM. 

The schedule for the afternoon is as follows:

12:30 PM- A guitarist will be here to play us some Latin Tunes

1:00 PM- HEB will be here to cook enchiladas

1:30 PM-  The Chilean Folklife group will be back to dance their country's folk dances. 

2:30 PM- Omni Salsa will be here to give Salsa lessons.

All afternoon- The children's area will be turned into Clara's Craft Corner as we make paper flowers, tin ornaments, and pinatas.  Of course, the International Cafe opens as usual for those with the munchies.

North Channel Festival Fun

Thanks to all who helped put together this year's Hispanic Heritage Festival at the North Channel Branch Library, thanks to all of the great volunteers, and thanks to everyone who attended! Some highlights from the day:

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!

Thank you for helping to make the 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festval held at the North Channel Branch Library such a success! We estimate that we saw over 1,000 children and adults this past Saturday! Fun was had by all: face painting and craft tables were especially popular! Ballet Folklorico danced, M.E.C.A. Mariachis sang and played, Happy the Clown entertained while Texas Edition performed and provided the sound system for our spectacular! A special thank you, also, to the local businesses who supported us and made this Festival come to life! And thank you's also to the Harris County Sheriff's Dept. for bringing Gizmo the Robot and to Bay Star Ambulance for letting the kids see the inside of their vehicle....
