Para Los Niños Storytime

Would you like your child to have a good start this school year? Do you want to explore the way your child learns? Then come join us Wednesday, September 18th at 11 am for our Para Los Niños Storytime. Para los Niños is a fun, educational, bilingual workshop designed by the Children’s Museum of Houston for the whole family. We will be reading stories, singing songs and enjoying hands on learning activities that will make your child’s learning fun and exciting.

Computer Classes @ Aldine Library!

Just starting to use the computer? Are you new to the internet? Do you want to explore Word 2007 and learn how to create and edit documents? Then step right on over to the Aldine Library and sign up for our free computer courses! Classes are held on Wednesday evenings and Thursday / Saturday mornings. A signup sheet for each class is available on a clipboard at the checkout counter. Don't delay! Sign up today and start brushing up on your computer skills!

 

Guitar Classes

Don't get tear drops on your guitar!  Learn to play it like a pro.  The Baldwin Boettcher Library will be holding beginning guitar classes for adults ages 18 and over.  The classes will be taught by a local guitarist Kevin Groover.  They will be held 4 Monday evenings: June 10th, 17th, 24th, and July 1st in our meeting room.  Please register at the front desk or call 281-821-1320.  So bring your own guitar and join the fun!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! BECOME A LITERACY TUTOR

You can help another adult learn to read! Register for the Literacy Tutor training sessions to be held at the North Channel Library on Friday, February 22nd from 1-4:30 pm. Literacy Coordinator, Steve Zach, will present unique information to help you become an effective Literacy Tutor. Once you are trained as a Literacy Tutor, you will have the opportunity to meet your new student for one-on-one sessions at the Library. You and the student will decide on the schedule that best meets both of your needs.  The North Channel Library has two Study Rooms that you can schedule for sessions with your student. ihcplAre you baffled when you hear people talking about blogs and texting and YouTube and My Space? Our web site has two training programs to get you up to speed. The links to iHCPL and iHCPL, the Next Generation are in the bottom, left corner of the main HCPL web page. If you click one, you’ll be taken to a blog that will give you background information, web sites to go to for more information or for practice, and exercises to do to make sure you’re catching on. The original iHCPL includes blogging, online photo sharing and photo-editing, RSS feeds, wikis, social networking, YouTube and much more.

Calling all adult guitarists!!!!

I would love to know how to play the guitar. How very lucky that Kevin Groover is going to teach beginning guitar on Monday evenings: September 14, 21, 28, & October 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm. If you would like to join the lessons the requirements are: to be an adult owning a guitar. The lessons are FREE! Due to the popularity of this program registration is needed.
