This music and story program is based on the children's book by Candace Fleming.  It will be coming to Freeman Library on Friday, February 25 at 10:30 am.  This is the story of diva, Carlotta Caruso, who heads out west singing at everyone she meets - including the villains!  The program is designed for children from kindergarten to second grade age.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk when the library opens at 10:00 am on the morning of the program.

Storybook Opera coming in February

Children and families are in for a treat in February when Houston Grand Opera brings two Storybook Opera programs to Freeman Library.  These programs are designed for children of kindergarten through second grade age.  They use music to tell the stories behind two favorite storybooks: Opera Cat by Tess Weaver and Westward Ho, Carlotta by Candace Fleming.

The first program will be Opera Cat on Tuesday, February 1 at 1:30 pm.  Opera Cat is the story of a cat named Alma who loves to sing.  Alma takes center stage on opening night after her mistress, Madame Soso, comes down with laryngitis.

Opera Cat

If you were in the Aldine Library on the morning of January 20th, 2011, you may have heard some opera singing in the building! Ms. Cecilia Duarte of Houston Grand Opera was on hand to read “OPERA CAT" by Tess Weaver at the Aldine Library's Bilingual Storytime. Ms. Duarte presented the book through storytelling and song in English and Spanish. The performance was a real treat for the children and parents in attendance.
