Squirrel Time!

Come enjoy a magical morning of story time, puppet shows, and more here at the High Meadows Library. This Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. our theme for story time will be all about our furry little friends called squirrels. Come sit back, relax, and enjoy our puppet show, followed by silly songs and a craft where you can make a squirrel puppet of your very own! Our story times are open to toddlers and preschoolers alike. If you can't make it this Tuesday, don't fret, our story times are held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. I hope to see you here!

Performing an appendectomy, flying a 747, and building a skyscraper are deeply complex tasks that require specialists and the proper tools. Despite the deep knowledge and high-tech tools needed to get the job done safely, complications arise. What is one of the easiest ways to prevent accidents and keep such complex tasks running smoothly? It isn't more training and better equipment, according to surgeon Atul Gawande. It is something simple and often overlooked - the humble checklist.

Time to Fall Back

clock on the word Fall

Ah, the end of Daylight Savings Time.  Well lit mornings, dark evenings.  For me this always marks the beginning of the holiday season.  I'm going to give it 72 hours before someone has holiday lights up on their house.

Now, we officially change back to Standard Time on Sunday, November 7, at 2:00am, but I wouldn't rush to set the alarm clock or anything.  Just set your clocks back one hour Saturday evening, so everything is correct the next morning.  For example, if your clock says 10:00pm, you change it to 9:00pm.  Remember, many electronic devices may reset themselves, so check the time before changing it.

Enjoy your extra hour of sleep!

Otaku Files: Another Character Playing Characters

As a relatively "new" edition to the Baldwin Boettcher family, I take pride in my work with the teenage and pre-teen patrons. I found out as soon as I started, that Game Day was rather sparse and only involved teenagers. There was only one Nintendo Wii for the projector screen and a few games. Notable games mind you, but they didn't pull a crowd like I am used to with gaming. Something had to change.
