Calling for English as a Second Language Tutors

Have you ever thought of helping someone learn to speak English?
Among the various English as a Second Language (ESL) programs here at the library is a tutoring program that partners language learners with volunteer tutors. At the end of September we’ll be training a new group of volunteers in the basics of being a tutor so we’re putting out an appeal for interested people.
To be a tutor here you do not have to have language skills in another language. All the tutoring happens at the library; the sessions are scheduled at the convenience of the tutor and the student; and tutors are given a variety of tools and supports to help with the process.  If that awakens your curiosity, then please consider taking the training day and see if this is for you.
The ESL Tutor Training day will happen on Saturday, September 22nd, from 9 am to 3 pm at the Barbara Bush at Cypress Creek library branch on Cypresswood Drive east of Stuebner Airline. To make further inquiries or sign up, please call Charity Martin at our branch at 832-559-4220.

Teaching: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Consider becoming a English as a Second Language tutor. Harris County Public Library offers an English as a Second Language program for adults in the Katy community and we are looking for tutors. Tutor just one student or teach an entire class. Don't worry if you don't speak a foreign language, we want your students to be speaking English anyway! If you are interested in this valuable volunteer experience, we encourage you to join us for a tutor training session tomorrw, March 6 from 9 AM to 3 PM. We will provide for you all training materials and a free lunch. All we ask in return is that you actively support the ESL program here at Maud Marks for at least 9 months. Please click here to register for this volunteer opportunity.
