 ¿Tienes algunas preguntas sobre cómo llenar la forma del US Censo que recibió por el coreo la semana pasada? Ayuda está disponible en la North Channel Library! Tenemos empleados del Censo en la biblioteca cinco días por semana hasta y incluyendo Abril 18. El horario es: Miércoles 10 am a 6 pm; Jueves 10 am a 6 pm; Viernes 1 pm a 6 pm; Sábado 10 am a 5 pm; Domingo 1 pm 5 pm.   Llenado y regresado su forma de Censo es confidencial y seguro para que la comunidad reciba dinero para servicios comunitarios. Está en nuestras manos: Sea Contado!  

The Census is Coming, The Census is Coming!

Ok, the Census is already here, so remember it's not just a gigantic roll-call to see who's present. It means big bucks! The Census statistics help the government distribute more than $400 billon dollars a year in federal funds to communities to fund hospitals, schools, job training, new roads, and more.  That's more than $4 trillion dollars over a 10-year period.

In the 2000 Census, it's estimated that more than 1 million people of color were not counted. In Harris County (Houston), Tx, an estimated 71,592 people were not counted, which resulted in a loss of $234.4 million dollars in federal funds for our local communities. CENSUS @ YOUR LIBRARY

Do you have questions about filling out the US Census form that you received in the mail last week? Help is available at the North Channel Library! Census staff will be available to answer your questions five days each week, up to and including April 18th.  Here is the schedule: Wednesday-10 am to 6 pm; Thursday-10 am to 6 pm; Friday-1 pm to 6 pm; Saturday-10 am to 5 pm; Sunday-1 pm to 5 pm. Filling out and returning your confidential Census form is safe--and will help to ensure that we receive the monies we need for critical community services. It's in our hands: Be Counted!!

Need a Job? US Census is Testing at the Galena Park Branch

The US Census will be conducting pre-employment testing at the Galena Park Branch.  The testing will take place in the library's conference room. The first scheduled date for testing will be on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 9:00 AM.  All interested individuals are encouraged to make initial contact with the Census Bureau by calling the toll free number at 866-861-2010.  At that time, you will be asked to punch in you zip code and then immediately referred to Miriam Alejos or a member of her professional staff.  Ms. Alejos and her staff are Recruiting for Eastern Harris County.  If you happen to miss that date due to a conflict, there will be other testing dates in January 2010.
