After I'm Gone

I love Laura Lippman’s character driven novels and this one is a delicious read. Based loosely on a real story, she focuses on the wife, daughters and mistress of Felix Brewer who runs away when faced with prison in 1976. Ten years later the mistress, Julie, disappears and everyone thinks she’s gone to join Felix in hiding. But then in 2001, her body is discovered. Sandy Sanchez, a retired detective, tries to solve the mystery. The real charm of After I'm Gone is reading about the lives and characters of the wife and the daughters who have to carry on when their husband and father desert them unexpectedly. But rest assured, at the end the mystery is solved and all questions are answered.
