Aftrican-American Read-In

Over a million readers of all ages and ethnic groups across the United States are expected to participate in the twenty-third annual African American Read-In.  The  Barbara Bush Branch Library and the E.B.O.N.Y. organization will join forces as official sponsors of this event locally.  The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of  Black History Month Activities.

On Saturday, February 4th, from 3:00 pm--5:00 pm at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center-The Forum, activities are planned for adults, teens and children. Authors ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Callie Holley, Bonnie Hopkins, Nakia Laushaul, Jacquetta Smith and Dr. Cherrye Vasquez are some of the featured guest for this event. Come, discuss, and hear excerpts from their various novels.

Experience a living "book" when Young Audiences of Houston presents "Freedom Spoken Here:  The Life of Phillis Wheatley"  featuring Jean Donatto.  A reception will follow and the authors will be selling and autographing their books.  The address is 6823 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, TX 77379.  The phone is 281-376-4610( library number).
