April Programs in the Children's Department
Join us in the Children's Department for fun and educational programs in April. For babies, toddlers and preschoolers, we have our regular storytimes. Babies (infants to 18 months old) have Book Babies on Wednesdays at 10:15 & 11:15 AM; Toddlers (18 months to 3 years old) have Toddler Time on Mondays at 11:15 and Tuesdays at 10:15 & 11:15 AM; and Preschoolers (3-5 years old) have Preschool Storytime on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm. Each of these programs requires tickets. They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program except for programs beginning at 10:15 am (those tickets are given out as soon as we open at 10:00 am).
For school age children 5-12 years old, we have Afterschool programs on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. In April, students from Clear Lake High School will do an origami program on Monday, April 7 at 4:30 pm. Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm. On Monday, April 21 children will learn water safety practices from staff with Swim Jim. Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.
For children 6 years and older, we have Chess Club on Monday nights at 6:30 pm. Free tickets for this program are given out 30 minutes before the program. This program is for children of all levels of chess experience. Beginners will get tips about the game and experienced chess players will have an opportunity to play with other children.
We will have our annual firetruck visit this month. Firefighters from the Houston Fire Department's Station No. 72 will visit the library on Friday, April 25 at 10:00 am to talk about fire safety. This program is designed for toddlers and preschoolers. The firefighters will bring a firetruck to the Diana Lane side of the library. No tickets are needed for this program. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to bring a camera to take pictures of their child on the firetruck.
