It’s not everyone who has a day named in honor of them, but that’s just what happened to one of our [
Maud Smith Marks Branch Library] favorite customers, Atha Marks Dimon. Atha, who turned 99 on August 18
th, received a special birthday surprise – a Proclamation from
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, declaring August 18, 2009, as
Atha Marks Dimon Day in Harris County. Atha celebrated her birthday at the library with her daughter and grandson (Athene and Miller Vaughan), Atha’s library family (the library is named for Atha’s mother, after all!) and many friends, including some of the original founders of the
Friends of the Library. Entertainment provided by the Wild River Band! Click
