The Final Summer Reading Inspiration!

It's time for the FINAL Summer Reading Inspiration Post, because SUMMER READING STARTS MONDAY! Woo hoo! Okay so the final books I've chosen to discuss are the Leviathan Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. This Trilogy is a wonderful mix of science and historical fiction. In this alternate history,

Charles Darwin

did not just discover the theory of evolution, but discovered the threads of life themselves, DNA and he and other scientists quickly learned to manipulate these threads to create new creatures. These creatures are now all over much of western Europe, Russia, and many other parts of the world. However not all countries chose to adopt this biological means of creating new technology, but instead chose to create mechanical wonders run on oil and steam. These two factions, the Darwinists and the Clankers are on the brink of war in 1914 and it will only take the assassination of one world leader to throw everything into chaos. Our main characters are Prince Aleksander of Hohenburg and Deryn Sharpe, a girl who dreams of flying. Prince Aleksander is on the run from the people who murdered his parents, and Deryn (or Dillan) is pretending to be a boy in order to serve on one the British Navy's giant, living airships. There worlds collide in a most spectacular fashion. Go ahead and request the book and don't forget to sign up for Summer Reading beginning June 3!
