I know you'll miss visiting us on Independence Day but there are plenty of celebrations around town to cheer you up.

Freedom Over Texas - Monday, July 4 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Eleanor Tinsley Park at Buffalo Bayou. There will be a fireworks display and performances by country music artists Jack Ingram, Chris Young, and Rodney Atkins. Admission is free with the donation of one canned food item per person. Donations will be given to the Houston Food Bank.

Galveston Island celebration - There will be fireworks from Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. The annual downtown parade will begin on July 4th at 10 a.m., beginning at Santa Fe and 25th streets and ending at the Galveston Railroad Museum. There will be live music and refreshments. The 20-minute fireworks display over the Gulf of Mexico at 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard will begin at 9:15 p.m.

A Star-Spangled Salute at Miller Outdoor Theatre  - Monday, July 4 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The performance is free with assigned seat tickets that are available on a first-come first-serve basis while supplies last from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the performance. Tickets are obtained through the Miller Theatre Box Office. Call 281-823-9103 for more information.

Kemah  - Monday, July 4 at 10:30 a.m. is the Spirit of Voluteerism's Independence Day Parade at the Visitors Center. Monday, July 4 at 9:30 p.m. is the Kemah Boardwalk fireworks display. To learn more, call 281-334-1611.
