Kathryn Grayson (1922-2010)
The lovely Kathryn Grayson died last week at the age of 88. Grayson was a mainstay of MGM in the 1950s, playing the lead in several of the studio’s best musicals. She made her movie debut in Andy Hardy’s Private Secretary, part of the series starring Mickey Rooney. Her beautiful soprano voice was showcased in classic movies such as Anchors Aweigh, opposite Gene Kelly. She also played the lead in Show Boat and Kiss Me, Kate, both co-starring Howard Keel, as well as The Toast of New Orleans and That Midnight Kiss with Mario Lanza. Her last acting role came on Murder, She Wrote as one of Jessica Fletcher’s (Angela Lansbury) hometown friends. Grayson’s talent and beauty will long be remembered.
