New Downloadable Audiobooks! HCPL adds thousands of eAudiobooks to its collection
For a lot of area residents, audiobooks have made their daily commutes, time on the treadmill, weekend yard work, or just lazing by the pool a lot more entertaining, and Smartphones, tablets and mp3 players have made listening to a bestseller or an old favorite unbelievably convenient. So it is no surprise that the popularity of audiobooks has soared in recent years.
Harris County Public Library has always done its best to keep ahead of demand and soon HCPL customers will have an even wider selection of downloadable audiobooks to choose from, including some of today’s hottest titles by authors like Stephen King, Charlaine Harris, Alexander McCall Smith and Anne Tyler.
On June 4, 2012, over 3500 new eAudiobooks will be added to HCPL’s collection bringing the total to well over 10,000 fiction and nonfiction audio titles—with more coming online all the time; what’s more, most of the new titles allow for unlimited checkouts, meaning there will be no frustrating holds on popular titles.
Because HCPL knows that grownups aren’t the only ones with long commutes, chores, or serious relaxing to do, there will be plenty of new titles for all ages and tastes: Meg Cabot, Anthony Horowitz and Avi for teens, and for the younger folks, Cynthia Rylant and Nikki Grimes, as well as select titles from the American Girl and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
To checkout any of the new titles when the catalog goes live on June 4, customers will go to e.hcpl.net. Those with Apple devices (iPods, iPads and iPhones) can simply download the free OneClickdigital app from the App Store. An app for Android devices will be available in a few months, until then Android users need only plug into a home computer to download audiobooks from the new collection.
With all the great new titles, audiobook fans might just find themselves wishing for a few more chores or a little road construction so they can keep on listening.
