Patrick Swayze (1952-2009)

While talking with a friend on the phone last night, she told me that Patrick Swayze had died.

I always liked Patrick, as an actor and – from interviews – as a person. A Houston native, he always seemed approachable and just plain nice. Like many other girls in the 80s, I went back time and again to see Dirty Dancing and Ghost. But I also enjoyed seeing him in action movies like Red Dawn, Road House, and Next of Kin. And some friends and I spent a couple of Saturdays watching tapes of the TV mini-series North and South. Patrick was a talented actor, never afraid of a challenging role, such as a drag queen in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar or a community leader with a terrible secret life in Donnie Darko. He’ll truly be missed.
