On the Shelf: The Girl Who Chased the Moon

I love happening upon a first-time-published author who has written a truly wonderful book. I love it even more when that author proves she can go the distance with a second and then a third book. Such is the case with Sarah Addison Allen, author of Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen and, most recently, The Girl Who Chased the Moon.

 

Not quite fantasy, not quite romance and definitely not chick lit, Allen’s magical stories, set in quirky little North Carolina towns, are among the most unique I’ve read. Each irresistibly charming book stands alone, but the themes are universal – the tangle of life’s joys and sorrows; the enchanting possibilities offered to each of us every day.  Once started, the books were almost impossible for me to put down, and yes, I’m already looking forward to Allen’s fourth book.

 

If you’re in the mood for something a little different, I recommend any or all of Allen’s books. They’ll take you to fairy-tale places and put a smile on your face along the way. I can’t think of anything better for a story to do!
