The Siege

Book and Snake building, Yale

I love Stephen White’s mysteries, and this one is no exception. Most of his novels feature Alan Gregory, a psychologist in Boulder, Colo. However, some of his novels feature other characters, with Alan making a mere cameo appearance. In The Seige, Sam Purdy, Alan’s policeman friend, is the star. He winds up in New Haven on the campus of Yale University. Family friends have a daughter on the campus that may have been kidnapped and he is there to investigate, without letting the New Haven police know he is there. He soon finds out that there is a hostage situation on campus, and that the resourceful terrorists are not afraid to kill college students. This is a very suspenseful read that makes you think. If you want to read some of his other books, the first Alan Gregory mystery is Privileged Information.
