Winter Days Call For Epic Space Operas

Leviathan Wakes

Winter days make me think of epic space operas set in the unforgiving cold of space, and one series in particular stands out.  The Expanse series by James S A Corey (really two authors,Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) is a fantastic mix of sci fi, noir mystery and action.

The first book in the series is Leviathan Wakes.  When Captain Jim Holden's ice miner stumbles across a derelict, abandoned ship, he uncovers a secret that threatens to throw the entire system into war. Attacked by a stealth ship belonging to the Mars fleet, Holden must find a way to uncover the motives behind the attack, stop a war and find the truth behind a vast conspiracy that threatens the entire human race.  The plot switches between Holden and Detective Miller who is looking for a missing girl.  As you can guess, the plots eventually come together and set the stage for the rest of the series.

Books Two and Three are Caliban’s War and Abaddon’s Gate.  Too much description would spoil the fun from Leviathan Wakes, but I guarantee that you’ll find yourself wrapped up in the series and waiting for more.
