eMedia 101 Class

Stack of books next to a KindleBring your iPad, Kindle, or Nook and learn how to download eMedia from our Digital Media Catalog using Overdrive. The class will be held on Wednesday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. Class will go over how our eMedia service works and how to use it. Patrons will also have the chance to see for themselves some of the popular eReader devices, and the instructor will be available to answer questions. Be sure to bring your library cards as they will be needed to download eBooks from our digital catalog.

International Polar Bear Day

two polar bears in the sunsetMonday, February 27 was designated as International Polar Bear Day by the conservation group known as Polar Bears International to raise awareness against global warming. Global warming is devastating polar bear habitats rapidly. This year the organization launched Siku Cam, a live video stream of a polar bear cub named Siku from his home at the Scandinavian Wildlife Park. The group also made a New Year's wish on behalf of Siku:

Hershel Glen Wooten, 1925-2012

Hershel Glen Wooten, resident of Jacinto City and former Assistant Chief of the Jacinto City Police Dept., passed away on February 18th.  Mr. Wooten was also a 25 year veteran of the Houston Firefighters and served with the Harris County Prec. 2 Constables.  He established the Jacinto City Opry on 10323 Palestine. The Opry is Saturday from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.  Mr. Wooten was an active member of his community and attended City Council Meetings.  He will be laid to rest in Cisco, TX.
