Art Walk By the Bay

Map of Businesses on Main Street Hosting Art Walk By the BayOn the first Friday of every month, 6 pm to 9 pm, artists are invited to display their artwork at participating businesses on Main Street. The program is called Art Walk By the Bay and is sponsored by the Main Street Business Association. The rules and procedures for registering as an artist are posted on the website.  Come to Main Street on the first Friday evening of the month and stroll around to look at the art. TEEN CRAFT EGGSHELL PENDANT

Teens and Tweens join us Wednesday, April 20 at 4:00pm for a fun craft time. You will be using dyed eggshells to make a unique mosaic pendant. All materials are provided. Just bring yourself and your creativity.

La Porte Diamond Jubilee, 1964

Picture of Cover of 'La Porte, Texas, 1889-1964 Diamond Jubilee' BookletIn 1964, a Diamond Jubilee celebration was held for La Porte’s 75th anniversary as a community (1889-1964).  An original booklet from this celebration can be seen at the library.  The booklet contains photographs and articles about La Porte history, with titles such as: ‘Attacapa Indians Once Roamed La Porte’, ‘Captain Allein Started La Porte Mail Delivery’, ‘La Porte Means Gate’ and ‘Land Sold for 50 Cents Per Acre’. There is even a ghost story about buried treasure and the pirate Jean La Fitte entitled ‘La Fitte Treasure Here?
