Computer Classes for April

The following computer classes will be offered in April:

*Microsoft Word I - presented on April 1st,  3:00 - 4:30 p.m.  
*Microsoft Word II - presented on April 3rd, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 
*Microsoft Word III – presented on April 15th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
*Microsoft Word IV– presented on April 17th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

*Must be familiar with using the Windows PC environment.
To register for classes you may either stop by the reference desk or phone the library at 281-484-2036 and one of the librarians will sign you up for the classes.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration

Read Across America LogoMarch 1st is Read Across America Day.  This program, sponsored by the NEA, is a national celebration of reading.  It's also a time to celebrate the life and works of Dr. Seuss.  Join us at 4 pm for a Dr. Seuss birthday party.  There will be crafts and cupcakes for children of all ages.

Family's history comes to life in Cane River

Lalita Tademy, writing her first novel after a career as a vice president of Sun Microsystems, searched the historical record and oral histories of five generations in the life of her own Louisiana family.  Their story became an Oprah book selection. Join us on February 28 at 3 p.m. to for a two-part discussion.  Part of our discussion will focus on Cane River and Tademy's research into her family history.  We also would like to hear about your own recent reading and other books you would like to read as we plan for future discussions.

AARP Tax-Aide Offers Free Tax Assistance

Beginning Friday, February 1, 2013, volunteers with AARP Tax-Aide will be offering free tax assistance Mondays and Fridays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Please bring the following with you when you come:


* copy of last year’s income tax return(s);
* W-2 forms from each employer;
*unemployment compensation statements;
*SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits;
*all 1099 forms showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets;
*1099-misc. showing any miscellaneous income;
*1099-R form if you received a pension or annuity;
*all forms indicating federal income tax paid;
*dependent care provider information (name, employer, ID, Social Security number);
*all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions;
*Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents
