We need Tutors

Our English as a Second Language programs are burgeoning. Every week at the library we hold discussion groups that provide forums for practicing speaking English, and we also offer individual tutoring sessions--also at the library--at times convenient to the tutor and the student.

We're looking for more volunteers to tutor people who want to learn to speak, read, and write English. Are you interested? If you'd like to volunteer, please give Charity Martin a call at 832-559-4200.

ParkingThe library parking will be expanding! Additional spots marked as “Library Parking” in the lot adjacent to the current parking will now be available as overflow. However, citations will be issued to visitors outside of designated library parking starting in November. Please be sure to ask for staff assistance if needed.

Baile!

Today, Tuesday October 9, 2012  is the last day Texans can register to vote in next month's election. We have voter registration cards here at the library at the Customer Service desk. You'll have to mail the card yourself today to get a valid postmark on that registration. As always, we're open until 9:30 tonight.

Gulf Coast Reads: the book and the movie

Every year at this time all the libraries of the Upper Gulf Coast conspire to get y'all on the same page. Or at least, reading the same book. This year's Gulf Coast Reads book is Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, the story of a young boy's struggle to come to grips with the loss of his Dad in the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings on 9/11.

On Tuesday, October 2nd, you're invited to our conference room on the second floor, at 3 pm, to discuss the book and celebrate the occasion.

We also invite you to next week's showing of the film inspired by this amazing book, with a discussion to follow. That'll be on Tuesday October 9th, at 6 pm. in the first floor meeting room, L 129.
