Resources for Homeschoolers

If you walk around to the far side of the Round Wall, you’ll find resources upon resources for Homeschooling. We’ve brought in books with ideas for students from pre-school to college prep, and for various learning situations and styles. We have help for teachers and help for students. We even have help for people wanting to consider homeschooling. We hope they are helpful!

Lone Star College Tomball Reaches out to the Community

August—it’s THAT month again! We at the library are ready for school: are you?
The display on the Round Wall that you can see as you walk in is dedicated to Lone Star College program offerings. You’ll find information about the College’s credit courses, and also Continuing Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Community programs such as use of the Wellness Center’s sports facilities, the LSC-Tomball Community Library (that’s us!), Fine Arts Performances, Discovery College (although this is a summer event, now finished), and the October Vet Tech K-9 Fun Run and Costume Contest.
The College is printing fewer and fewer catalogs these days. Here are the links to their various online programs:

LSC-Tomball Community Library Begins a New Chapter

Please welcome Deborah Sica, our new Co-Director of the public library side of LSC-Tomball Community Library. When she begins July 30th, she will be the second public library Co-Director in the current location, succeeding Wendy Schneider who retired in April.

Deborah received her BA in English and Women’s Studies from the State University of New York in Buffalo, her Masters of Fine Arts in Writing and Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO, and her Masters of Library and Information Science at San José State University in San José, CA.

Since 1997 Deborah has worked in Research & Education. While working in the joint public and academic Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on the San José State University campus, Deborah acquired insight into how joint-use public-academic library systems can benefit their communities. She has also worked as an Assistant Librarian in an Austin law firm, a Collection Surveyor at the University of California, Berkley archives and as an Archivist at the Holocaust Museum in Houston. The Holocaust Museum experience was a turning point in her career. She realized the importance of equal access to library service and public resources as a basic human right. From that point on, her career turned to public libraries.
