Teen Summer Writing Contest

pen and paperOn Tuesday, the winners of the Fourth Annual Teen Summer Writing Contest were announced at a reception held at the Tomball Library. Hosted in conjunction with the Barbara Bush Branch Library, the Writing Contest was a huge success. Poems and short stories were submitted by teens from both branches, various other HCPL branches, and several states across the country. Thanks to all the teens who wrote and submitted fantastic entries! We look forward to reading next summer's entries!

Classic Readers Book Club Starting Soon!

Book CoverAttention All Classics Readers! The Lone Star College - Tomball Community Library will be starting a new book club on the 4th Monday of the month at 2:00 PM. Come on in on August 27th to the library's downstairs meeting room for lively discussion and investigation into what makes a book a classic? This month's must-read is Lord of the Flies by Sir William Golding.

Duct Tape & Movies & Books, Oh My!

And don’t miss the last Teen Movie Night on Thursday! Call the library for the movie title. Meet in the second floor Computer Lab on Thursday, August 9 from 7:00-9:00pm.

Have you registered for the Teen Summer Reading Program yet? There’s still time, so what are you waiting for? All you have to do is read any 5 books (or for 600 minutes) this summer, log them online, and stop by the library for cool prizes!

Free Basic English Classes Testing Next Week

The Tomball campus of Lone Star College offers free Basic English Classes for a limited number of people from the community. If you want to take this class you MUST first be tested for your level of understanding of English so you can be placed in the appropriate class. There are always more people than spaces in these classes so come early to your testing, and if possible, come on the first day.

If you walk around to the far side of the Round Wall, you’ll find resources upon resources for Homeschooling. We’ve brought in books with ideas for students from pre-school to college prep, and for various learning situations and styles. We have help for teachers and help for students. We even have help for people wanting to consider homeschooling. We hope they are helpful!
