National Autism Awareness Month

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, Tuesday, April 2, LSC Tomball Community Library will “Light it up Blue“.

The staff will be wearing blue and if you are wearing blue too you will receive one of our hand-crafted blue puzzle pieces while supplies last. The puzzle piece was first created in 1963 and is the international symbol for autism. The National Autism Society notes that the puzzle pattern reflects the mystery and complexity of the autism spectrum. Join us this month as we acknowledge and raise awareness about autism. Be sure to come see the beautiful blue lights around the first floor Reference Desk!

Pysanky Egg Demonstration

pysanky eggsCelebrate spring at the library this weekend and see Marilyn Henderson, a local artist, demonstrate the art of pysanky, a traditional Ukrainian technique of decorating eggs by drawing a design on the egg in wax and then dipping the egg in a dye. During the demonstration, Marilyn will explain the history of the art while creating a decorated egg, which will then be given to someone in the audience.

The demonstration will be held in the Children’s Activity Room this Saturday, April 5 from 11:00am-12:30pm. All ages are welcome to attend and a story and craft will be available for young children.

For more information, please call the library at 832-559-4200.

Tomball Children's Garden Club Spring Planting

The Kids Garden Club at the Tomball Library has resumed meetings for the Spring season. Two rows of okra were planted for a summer crop and the kids made salad and a dressing with the salad greens that were grown over the winter break. Garden Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month between last and first freezes of the year. This Spring we will work on the Ecology and Environmental Horticulture Certificate of their Golden Ray Series of the Junior Master Gardener Program. All children 5-12 are welcome to participate but must register no earlier than the Monday of the previous week. Registration is limited to 10 children per meeting. Please call 832-559-4235 for more information or to register.

April Book Clubs

booksIt’s hard to believe, but April is almost here! Along with a few showers, April also brings a new crop of book club selections. Each month the library has six exciting book clubs for adults, all geared towards different reading interests. There is always room for new faces, so come join a book club this Spring!

For more information about the book clubs or to pick up a copy of this month’s selection, stop by the first floor Reference Desk and talk to a librarian.
