You can ease your fears by attending the “Job Interviewing Seminar “ offered at the Baldwin Boettcher Library on Wednesday, January 17, 2010 at 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Harris County Libraries Serve as Warming Centers

Residents seeking shelter from the frigid temperatures can head to their local library.  All 25 Harris County branch libraries will open at 9 am on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9 to serve as warming centers for the public. 

Closing hours will vary depending on the branch.

Baldwin Boettcher Branch -- Evening Book Club

Summary: Staring unflinchingly into the abyss of slavery, this spellbinding novel transforms history into a story as powerful as Exodus and as intimate as a lullaby. Sethe, its protagonist, was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free.

The Mystery Continues

The new year will find us in Paris, France.  We will be looking at the book, Death du Jour by Lou Jane Temple.  The setting is in Paris and this book is part of the Spice Box Mystery series.  So if you like mysteries and historical fiction, please join us for our trip to 18th century Paris.  The book club will be meeting on January 20th at 2 pm.  Come enjoy a lively discussion and a crepe a la martine.

Wednesday Movies Showcase Stars

The SunThe Classic Cinema Club meets once a month at Baldwin Boettcher on a Wednesday at 2 PM to watch a not-so-new but treasured movie on our large screen in the library's meeting room. On January 6, we invite you to join us for a screening of an Oscar winning film from 1951, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift, based on Theodore Dreiser's novel, An American Tragedy.
