Book Club Begins Reading for September Meeting

Appointment in Samarra    I’m currently on page 40 of John O’Hara’s Appointment in Samarra and finding it hard to put down. This classic novel published in 1934 lets us into the world of the country club set, in a small town in Pennsylvania during the first part of the Great Depression. I am reminded a bit of F. Scott Fitzgerald in the setting and characters, yet Mr. O’Hara is a very different (and also excellent!) writer.

Job Search Seminars

Are you one of the many looking for a job?  Unsure where to start?  Baldwin Boettcher Library is having a job search seminar.  On September 9, 2009 the Worksource Solutions will teach you how to "Use the Internet" to find a job.  Then on September 23, 2009, the Worksource Solutions will help you "Evaluate Your Skills and Develop a Plan".  They will do this by helping you determine your marketable skills, learn to effectively communicate your skills and identify your employment priorities.  In addition, this seminar will help you identify effective ways to look for a job, create a job search schedule, and develop goals for your job search.  Join us from 2 pm to 4 pm on the 9th and the 23rd of September.  Remember this is a free program.  For more information and to register call 281-821-1320.

Shhhh! Do you want to find out some juicy gossip?

I get all my juicy information from People Magazine.  Baldwin Boettcher has the latest issue of People in the Reader’s Corner. By the way, the Reader’s Corner is usually a pleasantly quiet area with tables and comfortable seating. You can read the latest copy of People at the Library and previous issues can be checked out for the two week lending period.

Tall Tale Cinema

Tall Tale Cinema has arrived at the Baldwin Boettcher Library.  The program will be presented once a month on Saturdays.  The next movie will be shown on September 12, 2009 at 2 pm.  This program was created to present the Tall Tales from Mary Pope Osborn's book "Tall Tales".  A "We the People Grant" gave us the idea for this type of presentation.  Come to the library, check out our "We the People" display and enjoy a good movie.

Wednesday Movies Coming Soon!

Our new Classic Cinema Club is moving to Wednesday afternoons, beginning Wednesday, September 2. Please come at 2:00 PM on that day to watch a hilarious romantic comedy from 1959 on our big screen in the library meeting room. We will even move in some big armchairs to give you that movie theatre feel. This program will be of interest to adults and seniors, but of course all family members are welcome to attend. The Classic Cinema Club will meet monthly.
