Ok, the Census is already here, so remember it's not just a gigantic roll-call to see who's present. It means big bucks! The Census statistics help the government distribute more than $400 billon dollars a year in federal funds to communities to fund hospitals, schools, job training, new roads, and more. That's more than $4 trillion dollars over a 10-year period.
In the 2000 Census, it's estimated that more than 1 million people of color were not counted. In Harris County (Houston), Tx, an estimated 71,592 people were not counted, which resulted in a loss of $234.4 million dollars in federal funds for our local communities.
