Kingwood Branch Library

Kingwood Branch was built in 1983 as a result of a grassroots campaign by residents of the area who saw the need for a library. They organized as FOLK – Friends of the Library Kingwood – in November 1978 and immediately began petitioning Harris County for a library. Plans were put into place to begin fundraising and they have not stopped yet.

At the library’s 20th birthday celebration in 2003, it was announced talks were beginning for a new library as a joint venture between Harris County and the City of Houston. Commissioner Eversole stated it would be 7 years before we would actually have a library. His words became a reality when the new, improved Kingwood Branch Library opened its doors on April 19, 2010. The City of Houston built the building and Harris County is running it just like before with the same policies and procedures.

The Kingwood Branch Library has multiple meetings spaces open to the public. The Meeting Room just off the foyer can seat 65 (fewer if tables are needed). The Barbara J. Williamson Room on the first floor is used for children’s activities and story times. The KAEMSA & KFD Conference Room on the second floor can accommodate small groups up to 12 people. There are also 4 private study rooms with computers on the second floor. Also new to the Kingwood Library is the Wilson & Carolyn Humphrey Quiet Room on the second floor where silence prevails. There is a Drive-through window where you can pick up items, designated for pick-up at that window, during our open hours. You can drive up and return books at any time.

FOLK (Friends of the Library Kingwood) has been an active group since before the library opened and are always looking for new members. They operate the “Bookstore for all FOLKS in memory of Norris B. Pelham” on the library premises which is open the same hours as the library. With these and other funds raised, FOLK has supported the Library by raising funds to purchase materials to supplement the library's collection, buy special equipment and supplies and fund special programs. They are a 501(c)(3) organization and any donations made to the Friends are tax-deductible. Their website is http://kingwoodfolk.org.
