I’m currently on page 40 of John O’Hara’s Appointment in Samarra and finding it hard to put down. This classic novel published in 1934 lets us into the world of the country club set, in a small town in Pennsylvania during the first part of the Great Depression. I am reminded a bit of F. Scott Fitzgerald in the setting and characters, yet Mr. O’Hara is a very different (and also excellent!) writer. We have copies available for check-out and more on the way, so if you enjoy reading and then discussing a book, please stop by or call and join the book club. Membership is easy – just attend the meeting on Monday, September 14, at 6:30 PM, here at Baldwin Boettcher.
