Next week, two of Tomball Library’s book clubs will hold their monthly meetings. Newcomers are always welcome, so join us for discussion and refreshments.
The Afternoon Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 7th at 3:00 pm in the second floor conference room. They will be discussing Nine Lives: Mystery, Magic, Death, and Life in New Orleans by Dan Baum.
Nine Lives explores New Orleans through the lives of nine characters over 40 years, bracketed by two epic hurricanes. It brings back to life the doomed city, its wondrous subcultures, and the rich and colorful lives that played themselves out within its borders.
The Inspirational Book Club will meet Thursday, September 9th at 7:00 pm in the Friends of the Library room. They will be discussing This Heavy Silence by Nicole Mazzarella.
When Dottie Connell adopts her best friend's daughter out of a combination of spite and loyalty, she must confront her ideas on motherhood, sexuality, and God. This Heavy Silence explores the mysteries of grace, the bargaining of birthright and the power of vows; both the vows we make to others, and, more binding, those we make to ourselves. Evoking the hardship, windswept beauty and simplicity of life in the rural Midwest, this beautifully observed debut novel leads us to question our ideas about motherhood, the obligations of family, and faith.
