Children and families are in for a treat in February when Houston Grand Opera brings two Storybook Opera programs to Freeman Library. These programs are designed for children of kindergarten through second grade age. They use music to tell the stories behind two favorite storybooks: Opera Cat by Tess Weaver and Westward Ho, Carlotta by Candace Fleming.
The first program will be Opera Cat on Tuesday, February 1 at 1:30 pm. Opera Cat is the story of a cat named Alma who loves to sing. Alma takes center stage on opening night after her mistress, Madame Soso, comes down with laryngitis.
The second program will be Westward Ho, Carlotta on Friday, February 25 at 10:30 am. This is the story of a diva, Carlotta Caruso, who travels west singing at everyone she meets - even the villains!
Both programs require tickets. They are free and available from the Kids Information Desk starting thirty minutes before the program. The Tuesday 1:30 pm Preschool Storytime will not be held on February 1 so that children may attend this progam.
