Would you like to start the new year off right by giving something back to your community? How about volunteering to become an ESL tutor? It may be the ultimate volunteer experience! Teaching people who are learning English as a second language has lots of advantages. First of all, you get to broaden your horizons by meeting new people and making new friends. No knowledge of any foreign language is required. You also get to work one-on-one or with a group, depending on your preference. You set your own schedule with your student(s). In addition, all materials are provided. Most importantly perhaps, you can help someone in the community reach their goals by improving their reading, writing and spoken English skills.
The Evelyn Meador Library will be hosting tutor training on January 10, 2012, from 6 - 9 pm. A second session will also be scheduled and once you have completed both sessions you will be ready to get started. It's really that simple. Becoming a volunteer tutor is something that is challenging and fun and rewarding all at the same time! If you would like to help, call to register at 281-474-9142.
