A young band director at a rough inner city school, through hard work and inspirational leadership, transforms a run-of-the-mill jazz ensemble into a force-of-nature funk band that storms through all comers at national competitions. Thirty-five years later, the students return to pay tribute to the teacher and mentor who changed their lives. Sounds like a Hollywood heart-warmer, right?. What if the movie was set right here in Houston? What if it wasn’t “based on a true story,” but absolutely true?

Then you would have Thunder Soul [2], the NAACP Image Award [3]-nominated documentary about the legendary Kashmere Gardens High School Stage Band and its leader Conrad “Prof” Johnson.
Harris County Public Library and Lone Star College-CyFair are proud to present a free screening of the film and a live performance by its stars, the Kashmere Reunion Stage Band [4]. February 9, 6:30 – 9:00 PM at LSC-CyFair Center for the Arts [5]. For more information 281-290-3210
