Aldine

A Deep Sadness

Like the rest of the Aldine community, we were shocked and saddened by the death of Stovall Middle School student, Jose Luis Meraz. When someone so young dies, it is such a great tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Meraz family and  the staff and students at Stovall Middle School.

Hispanic Heritage in the Movies

The Aldine Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with movies. On Wednesday, September 17th at 4 PM, we are showing a film for the whole family about a young girl in Mexico who prepares to celebrate her Quince Anos (fifteenth birthday). Refreshments will be provided. On Friday September 19th at 3 PM, there will be a teen movie and discussion with free snacks. Join us for these special events. See you at the movies!

Volunteers Needed at Aldine!

The Aldine Library is in need of volunteers! Teens, do you need service hours for school? Adults, do you have some spare time and wish to help out? We have ongoing clerical work opportunities within the library for you. Also, during the month of October, we have two special events: Fall Festival and Patron Count Week. We could use your help!

Volunteer Requirements:

Back to School!

It's back to school time! To help kids get ready for the new academic year, the YMCA and Molina Health Care gave away backpacks and school supplies at the Aldine Library's Bilingual Storytime on Thursday, August 21st, 2014. Have a great school year, kids!

Teen Hangs is back!

Teen Hang Promotional Flier

After a long hiatus for Summer Reading, Teen Hangs is returning! Starting this week every Monday at 3:00pm we're going to have game consoles, computers, and game tables set up for teen enjoyment. Oh, there's also snacks and drinks every week too. So it's probably the coolest best thing you could do Monday afternoons, so you should probably start coming and never stop.

There's Still Time!

The Summer Reading Program is fast drawing to a close. The program officially ends on Saturday, August 9th. Everyone be sure to turn in those reading logs as soon as possible. Kids, there's still time to get your free book and certificate of completion awarded after reading 10 books or 500 minutes. Teens, get  your ear buds after reading 5 books or 600 minutes. Adults, don't miss out on your coffee mug awarded after reading 5 books or 600 minutes.

It's a Celebration of Summer Reading!

The Aldine Library is having a celebration of Summer Reading on Wednesday, August 6th at 3 PM. Join us in the Meeting Room for fun including face painting, crafts, and activities. Come celebrate a job well done, super readers. You deserve it!

APE made new decorations for the YA area

Our APE volunteers have done it again! They've made some fun "book facing" posters to encourage all y'all to use the library to it's fullest and Read YA. Whether it's a vampire novel, a coming of age tale, or a bone chilling dystopia; YA literature has something for everyone. And now, we have posters to remind you of it!
