April 15th is National Library Workers Day!  It was first celebrated in 2004 to recognize all library workers, including librarians, support staff and everyone that makes library service possible every day.

Happy Birthday Maya Angelou!

Maya Angelou is 86 today and was born in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. When she was 14, she dropped out and became San Francisco’s first African-American female cable car conductor. She later finished high school and her passion for music, dance, performance, and poetry came soon after this. 

Maya Angelou has written 16 books and 4 films which were either based upon her books, directed by her or narrated by her.

35th Anniversary of Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant Accident

On March 28, 1979, at 4:00 am EST, a series of accidents began at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant on the Susquehanna River, which is 10 miles southeast of Harrisburg, PA.  Safety was reevaluated for existing nuclear generating operations after this.  Because of equipment and other failures, Three Mile Island came close to a meltdown of its uranium core, which could have caused extensive radiation contamination.

Jacinto City Softball and Baseball Parade

Jacinto City's Annual Softball/Baseball season will be opening this Saturday, March 22nd.  The parade to open the season will start at 9:00 am.

The Jacinto City Branch Library has Tae Bo class on Thursday's from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Meeting Room.  Come and joins in keeping fit in 2014!
