<p>Many children's songs and fingerplays help reinforce basic math concepts. Whenever possible, I incorporate objects that the children can count or other visual images such as graphs. This not only makes the information easier for children to understand but also allows me to introduce vocabulary. </p>
<p>At home, parents can help their children by creating activities and games to talk about math. Take children on a nature walk and allowing them to collect items such as, small stones, sea shells or leaves.</p>
<p>When you get home, you can divide the objects and separate them into two or more parts. Which ones are smaller? Which ones are bigger. Which group has more than the other, or are they equal? One last bit of advice is to <u>always keep it fun</u>! Math is all around us and the more familiar children are with basic concepts the better they will do in school. </p>
