Writing Contest!

Calling all kids kindergarten through third grade! Enter your story for a chance to win a national contest and have your story published online at pbskids.org/read. If you or someone you know has a child that loves to write and has great stories to tell, have them pick up an application at High Meadows Library. The deadline to apply  is Monday, March 17, 2014. Also, please check out our events calendar to check out what else is going on at High Meadows.

Aldine Teens Place in National Video Contest

Teens PosingThe teens at the Aldine Branch won the online voting portion of the Story Tubes contest for their book trailer for The Missing Girl by Norma Fox Mazer. Out of all the videos submitted, theirs was voted the best by the viewers. Way to go!

Aldine Branch Teens Compete in National Competition

Teens In Front of Blank WallAs you know, the teens of the Aldine Branch Library have been hard at work on many projects. Along with creating digital stories and decorating the Young Adult area of the library, they also became semi-finalists for a national contest sponsored by IdeaPaint! How great is that?!

Watch the video the teens made and cast your vote for the Harris County Public Library. You can vote once a day until December 4th, so don’t wait.

And spread the word! Let’s supports the teens and all of their hard work.

So Nice, We Did It Twice! Trivia Returns to Northwest Library!

Santa LibrarianLast month, the adults of Northwest participated in a library trivia game. We had such a great response, we were asked to host another one. This time is Christmas Trivia. The questions are tough, but we know our adults are very well read! Come on in and fill out the form. You will be entered into a drawing for a fabulous holiday gift basket! All entries must be submitted by December 15th to qualify for the drawing. Good luck!

Has someone here at the Harris County Public Library or another library made a difference in your life? Teen Read Week Fanfiction Contest

 Teen Read Week is almost here again and Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek is celebrating with a Costume Party on October 21st at 6pm and a fanfiction contest.  The Fanfiction contest is for teens in grades 7-12.  The fanfiction must be 1,000 to 2,000 words in length and  an original work never before posted on a website.  KEEP IT CLEAN!  There are some authors who do not allow fanfiction of there work (i.e. Anne Rice), please respect their wishes.  KEEP IT CLEAN!  The Teen Advisory Board will be judging the contest, so to prevent prejudice do not use put your name on your entry.  KEEP IT CLEAN! The winners of the contest will be announced at the Costume Ball.  And remember to KEEP IT CLEAN!  All entries are due by October 10th, no exceptions.
