Volunteer ESL Tutors Needed! Training Sessions March 21 & 29

There are a lot of very good reasons to become a volunteer English as a second language tutor at Harris County Public Library. One of the best is that with a small investment of your time each week you can make a huge difference in one of your neighbors' lives--and no experience is necessary. On March 21 and 29, HCPL is offering free training sessions that will give you all the tools you'll need.

To register for one of the training sessions below, or for more information, please call the library, or call or email the literacy coordinator at 713-749-9035.

Become a Volunteer ESL Tutor !!

Have you ever wanted to help someone learn to read, write, and speak English?  If so, there will be a free training for prospective Volunteer ESL Tutors on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 PM. in the library Meeting Room.  Steve Zach, Harris County Public Library's Literacy Coordinator, will be presenting current teaching methods designed specifically for working with students of English as a second language ("ESL").  For more information, or to register, please call 281-360-6804, or stop by our Adult Services desk.

We Need Even More ESL Tutors

Ten weeks ago we wrote that our English as a Second Language programs were burgeoning and that we needed tutors. A number of people signed up and we’re so grateful. And now we need even more tutors because even more people are asking to learn English.

We need Tutors

Our English as a Second Language programs are burgeoning. Every week at the library we hold discussion groups that provide forums for practicing speaking English, and we also offer individual tutoring sessions--also at the library--at times convenient to the tutor and the student.

We're looking for more volunteers to tutor people who want to learn to speak, read, and write English. Are you interested? If you'd like to volunteer, please give Charity Martin a call at 832-559-4200.

Many Adult Activities at the Library

Wow!  I was just looking at the calendar and we sure have a lot going on at Maud Marks over the next week!

Do you want to help out in the community?  On Saturday we have an English as a Second Language tutor training session starting at 9 AM.  In just 4 hours, we'll prepare you to teach adults from various countries English.  You don't even have to speak another language to help out; in fact, we prefer that you don't!  All we ask of you is a commitment of 1 1/2 hours per week through May.  Just think how rewarding it will be to help someone acclimate to life here in the Katy area!
