Celebrate Day of the Dead!

Day of the Dead - Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world. The holiday is not a sad time, but rather a happy one that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died. The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and November 2. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting the graves with these items as gifts. Stop by the 1st floor lobby to see our wonderful display.  Muchas Gracias to our friend and former co-worker Sylvia McMillan for generously loaning us her artifacts for the display.

Little Amigo's Story Time!

Hola...When children learn a second language at a young age it is as easy as learning a first language and also allows them to optimize their learning potential.  Little Amigos is a story time presented in English with one word each week spoken in Spanish throughout.  For example: the theme is “dog”.  The word "dog" will be replaced with the word “perro” whenever it is in the story, song, finger play and activity. This is a great opportunity each week to expose your young child to a second language which they can continue to build on as they get older.  Little Amigos is for children ages 3 – 5 and meets every Tuesday at 9:30 am in the Children's Area.  Esperamos contar con tu presencia¡  (hope to see you there!)
