Check Out the Moon...

The Moon

Because it will be full tonight, Thursday, June 12!  So take a moment to go outside and look for it in the southeastern sky.  Last night’s moon was high in the sky at dusk, and it had an almost delicate appearance, like fine glass.  What sort of beauty will our moon give us tonight?

As part of our Adult Summer Reading Program at Baldwin Boettcher, we will display books about the moon all summer long.  Science and astronomy, space exploration and the astronauts, folklore, photography, and maybe even a favorite book from your childhood – all will be on hand and available for check-out through August 9.

GuitarHave you always dreamed of playing the guitar?  Is there a guitar waiting somewhere, maybe stored under a bed or in a closet, all ready to make music as soon as you find the time to learn how to play?

We have good news.  Local guitarist Kevin Groover will teach beginning guitar to adults on four consecutive Monday evenings, beginning June 9, 6 p.m., at Baldwin Boettcher.  To register, just stop by the branch or call 281-821-1320.  This free program is for adults 18 and over, and students must bring their own guitars to class.

Outreach Reaches In to the Library

Recently the Girl Scout Troop #11467 made a special visit to the Baldwin Boettcher Library on their world of girl's journey.  They have been studying what girls can do and learning to see their potential and true value in life.  As part of that process, they visited the residents at the Magnolia Heights Memory Center during the Christmas season.  They spent time with the troops and sang their favorite carols.  Another part of that journey was here at the library.  They had a story time with Margo our Children's Librarian and learned about amazing women in books plus made thematic crafts.  They have put together a wonderful book of their own telling the story of their journey and it is waiting to be seen by all at our circulation desk.  So if you are in the girl scouts working on a badge, make us a part of y

Yes Spring is finally here. Visit the Baldwin Boettcher Library and fill our "communitree" with a butterfly to celebrate the season.  Just come by the circulation desk at the front of the library and make a donation.  A butterfly with your name and/or words of choice will be placed upon the tree for all to see. Just like our wonderful patrons, donations are always welcome no matter what the season.  So we look forward to seeing you soon.  Don't forget to stop by the front desk and see our "communitree".
