In the last session of the Texas State Legislature, funding for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission was cut by 64%, and 80% of that 64% was money that the Texas State Library used to pass on to public libraries, school libraries, and college libraries all over the state. In addition, because the legislature cut state funding so dramatically, Texas lost matching federal funds. The state legislature reconvenes today. If this library is important to you, please consider contacting our local state Senators and state Representatives and asking them to restore funding to Texas libraries. You can call or stop by our reference desk to ask how you can help, or you can go to this link to find out who your state Senator and state Representative are and go to this link for suggestions on how you can help, including a sample letter.
