Jennifer Jones passed away this week at the age of 90. She was a lovely actress, one who started out playing young girls (The Song of Bernadette , Since You Went Away , Portrait of Jennie) and went on to portray stronger characters in movies such as Duel in the Sun (quite a scandalous movie for its time), Ruby Gentry , and Love is a Many-Splendored Thing . And long before Mad Men , The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit depicted a changing society by focusing on ad man Gregory Peck and his wife Jennifer Jones. Her last movie appearance was in The Towering Inferno . She spent the years after that working with charities and on the board of the Norton Simon Museum in Los Angeles. My favorite of her movies is Good Morning, Miss Dove. I’m still waiting for that one to make it to DVD. It’s sometimes shown on the Fox Movie Channel and is well worth seeing.
