The Aldine Library served as a warming center for the Greenspoint community on Friday, January 8th and Saturday, January 9th, 2010. The library opened at 9 AM on both days to provide shelter for those wishing to escape the freezing temperatures. Aldine library was fully operational with reference assistance, Internet access, and checkout of materials.
A crew from channel 45 Univision came to interview library staff and patrons on Friday, January 8th. The interviews were featured on the evening news at 10 PM.
During the summer of 2009, the Aldine Library served as a cooling center for the community. The library was open longer hours to provide shelter from the heat.
"Cuando hay una necesidad en la comunidad, abrimos las puertas," staff member Mark Haywood said to the Channel 45 reporter. In English, it means "When there is a need in the community, we open the doors."
