When the Fairbanks Library Book Club was looking for something to read for Asian/Pacific-American Heritage Month in May of 2008, one of our staff members recommended “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan [2]” by Lisa See [3].
The book club members liked it enough that this May, they were okay with reading another Lisa See [3]book, “Shanghai Girls [4].”
They liked it so much that they wanted to read the sequel, “Dreams of Joy [5],” which just came out May 31, for our June book club meeting.
Coincidentally, Lisa See [3]happens to be appearing in Houston on the very night of our next meeting, Monday, June 20. She will be at the Fondren Library at Rice University at 7:00 p.m. for a book signing. See the Blue Willow Book Shop site [6]for more information.
