Map
The Fairbanks Library was founded in 1922 by a handful of area residents who used space at the local post office. After the post office caught fire in 1925, the community raised $ 146 for materials and a 224-square-foot "cookie box" was built without running water in Fairbanks-N. Houston Road and Hempstead Highway. That building continued to serve as the Fairbanks community library until the current building was opened in 1971. With 5,000 square feet, it was more than twenty times the size of the original. A generous legacy of the Elfreida C. Letz estate partially funded further expansion in 1990 to the current 7,247 square feet.

Hi, I’m Melinda Brinkley the Branch Manager of the Fairbanks Branch Library. I have always loved libraries and grew up spending my summers in my county library reading and learning about the world around me. I love that libraries are a place with something to offer everyone. Early literacy is my passion and creating Story Walks is one way that love manifests in our community. I believe customer service is essential and kindness, compassion, and communication are key to providing excellent service. My patron is my purpose.  In my spare time, I love being with my family. I also enjoy reading some of my favorite authors Lee Child, Beverly Cleary, Elizabeth Berg, Alan Bradley and Max Lucado, and Joyce Myers. I love listening to audiobooks especially those narrated by Jayne Entwistle. I’m all in with Star Wars (original cannon), Marvel movies, and being curious not judgmental with Ted Lasso.
