Map
The Freeman Branch Library first opened on November 1, 1964, and was named in honor of Captain Theodore C. Freeman, the first astronaut to lose his life in the U. S. space program. The library moved to the Harris County Multipurpose Annex on July 13, 1976. The current 42,000 square foot joint facility of Harris County and the City of Houston opened on June 8, 2004, and was renamed the Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library.
Thanks to a generous bequest, in February 2015 the Freeman Branch Library opened the Jocelyn H. Lee Innovation Lab, a free community Makerspace where people of all ages can learn, share resources, work on projects and network with other creative minds.
