Author and MSNBC host, Ali Velshi will visit HCPL's West University Branch Library on October 9 to discuss his latest book, Small Acts of Courage. Velshi's book, subtitled "A Legacy of Endurance and the Fight for Democracy," explores his family's history of struggle across three continents and its generational commitment to social justice for all people. In the book, "Velshi taps into 125 years of family history to advocate for social justice as a living, breathing experience--a way of life more than an ideology. With rich detail and vivid prose, he relates the stories of regular people who made a lasting commitment to fight for change, even when success seemed impossible."
Join HCPL, the Ismaili Council for the Southwestern USA, and Harris County Friends of the Library for an evening with MSNBC host Ali Velshi, one of today's most respected journalists and television personalities. Ali will share insights from his new book, Small Acts of Courage, and discuss current events, drawing from his extensive experience covering global issues to shed light on the world we live in.
The Houston Chronicle's Vice President/Editor of Opinion. Lisa Falkenberg will act as moderator for this event. She is a native Texan, and a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has covered the state for more than 20 years as a reporter, columnist, and currently, the editor leading the Editorial Board and Opinion sections.
The talk will be followed by a book signing. Blue Willow Books will have copies of Small Acts of Courage available for purchase the evening of the event.
